Fall Colors Along the Wisconsin Great River Road at Fountain City

The fall colors weren’t quite there yet in these drone views of Fountain City, but the Mississippi River was already putting on a pretty good show.

Fountain City is one of the communities along the Wisconsin Great River Road, a 250-mile National Scenic Byway that follows the Mississippi through more than 30 river towns. Along this stretch, the river, backwaters, and Driftless Area bluffs make the view worth slowing down for.

From above, you can see how Fountain City fits into the landscape. The town sits in a narrow strip between the wooded bluff and the river, with Highway 35 and the railroad following the shoreline.

You don’t have to wait for peak color to enjoy the drive. Hard to beat those Mississippi River views.
